SAKITAWAK DEVELOPMENT CORP. is a municipal development corporation wholly owned by the Northern Village of Ile a la Crosse. The company was established in 1989 and has successfully invested in a number of regional and community businesses operating in different sectors of the Northern economy.
The mission of SDC is to develop, maintain and expand the economic base of Ile-a-la-Crosse. It will do so by obtaining a secure investment position in every major sector of the regional economy.
To this end, SDC will continue to participate in regional business developments for continuing investment revenue to assist in this work at home.
SDC promotes community involvement, on-going training to develop its human resources and the exploration of new business opportunities for local entrepreneurs.
SDC is managed by a seven member Board of Directors who are appointed by the Village Council.
Its day to day head office operations are handled by the General Manager, Office Manager and administrative personnel.
SDC currently employs 50 local people directly and is involved in several business partnerships.
SAKITAWAK is the Cree name of Ile a la Crosse meaning where the rivers open out.
