SAKITAWAK DEVELOPMENT CORP. is a municipal development corporation wholly owned by the Northern Village of Ile-a-la-Crosse. The Corporation was established in 1989 and has successfully invested many regional and community businesses that operate in different sectors of the Northern economy.
The mission of SDC is to develop, maintain and expand the economic base of Ile-a-la-Crosse. By doing so, Sakitawak can benefit the 1,600 residents of the Village.
SDC has refined and adapted its investment criteria to provide the maximum degree of benefit to the community’s residents. The investment criteria includes:
- Joint ventures on existing businesses or investments,
- Joint ventures on new businesses or investments,
- Job creation within our community,
- Job creation outside our region with investment accruing to our community,
- Resource related opportunities,
- "Return on Investment” opportunities that enable SDC to provide benefits to Ile-a-la-Crosse.
Additionally, SDC promotes community involvement, on-going training to develop its human resources and the exploration of new business opportunities for local entrepreneurs.

SDC is governed by a seven member Board of Directors who are appointed by the Village Council.
Its day-to-day head office operations are handled by the General Manager, Office Manager and administrative personnel.

SAKITAWAK is the Cree name of Ile-a-la Crosse meaning where the rivers open out.
